Minecraft, indie game for 10 euros

I got interested in Minecraft a week ago. Notch has done quite a bit of work since I last played Minecraft, having added a lot more to the game beyond just setting basic blocks. If you haven’t heard of Minecraft, it’s a sandbox-style game where you can destroy and mine blocks and later use them to build structures. It sounds and looks ridiculously simple, but it’s one of those games you either instantly love or never understand. It also has a survival mode (in the current version), although it doesn’t work properly in multiplayer yet.

Minecraft Map Viewer

I was browsing the Minecraft Wiki and came across some cool programs to draw the Minecraft world into an image. I ended up writing a Google Maps-esque map viewer as throwing up a gigantic PNG didn’t work so well. I may release it once I get some performance issues fixed. Part of it is due to the shadows and transparent PNGs, but without those, it’s still not as butter smooth (relatively) as Google Maps.

WorldEdit

I also wrote a server plguin for hey0′s server modification that lets you fill in blocks, replace blocks, remove floating blocks above you, and lets you do a few other world editing-related things.

You can get WorldEdit here:

  1. Cant wait for the map viewer. I with c10t did warps. Any chance of a Linux based command line version?

  2. The map viewer is only a frontend so you can use any map generator. I've used both pynemap and Cartograph (Linux ver.), but you do have to modify the map generator to spit out the top left coordinates.
